St. Paul's Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de San Pablo) is a historic Anglican church in Valparaíso, Chile. Located in Cerro Concepción in the historic British section of Valparaíso, St. Paul's has been a National Monument of Chile since 1979 and a cathedral since 2016. St. Paul's began in 1837 as a house church serving the British expatriate community in the cosmopolitan port city of Valparaíso, with divine services conducted by traveling Anglican chaplains. At the time and until 1865, Chilean law restricted all faiths but Roman Catholicism, but in 1857—amid the growing influence and wealth of the British expat population—Anglicans were permitted to build a church in Cerro Concepción. British Consul William Rouse led efforts to raise funds for the new church. More information...
