Contrary to the "Mega Top 100" the Dutch Top 40 still adds up points to produce year-end charts. The difference can be illustrated by looking at 1997 when the double A-sided single Something About the Way You Look Tonight/Candle in the Wind 1997 by Elton John ended up on #19 in the year-end charts of the Top 40. 18 other singles had acquired more points during 1997. According to the compilers of the Single Top 100 it was the best sold single in the Netherlands as it sold 580.000 copies, far more than any other single that year. It turned even out to be the best sold single ever in the Netherlands.
