The internationally cast quintet performs newly arranged Persian songs from the early days of Iranian radio to the Islamic Revolution and compositions of the participating musicians influenced by jazz and classical music. In 2015, Westdeutsche Rundfunk recorded a concert of the band entitled "Maryam Akhondy's Paaz – live at WDR" which was released on CD at Laika Records in Bremen in 2016. Also in 2016, the duo "Akhondy & Herting" formed, whose first concert took place on 23 June 2016 in Cologne's Stadtgarten. The music is a mix of European, African, Persian and Indian sounds and ranges from jazz to newly interpreted German folk songs. "Unwaghta (At that time) – Iranische Gassenhauer und Küchenlieder" is Maryam Akhondy's last CD to date, released in 2021. For this she has collected and re-recorded well-known music and vocal pieces from the past. Most of the songs were sung privately, e. g. in the kitchen, others were actually sung on the streets and lanes of Iranian villages and towns. The song title "Machine Mashti Mamdali" is still the name for unkempt and mostly unfit cars in Iran. Maryam Akhondy is involved as a music teacher in the field of traditional Iranian music and in intercultural music projects and has been giving workshops since more than 20 years, including the Women of the World Women's Music Festival in Aarhus, Denmark, the Stimmen-Festival in Lörrach, the Bavarian Music Academy in Marktoberdorf and the Landesmusikrat NRW.
