  • The confusion of Antoniotto Usodimare with his compatriot António de Noli is principally due to the 16th-century Portuguese chronicler Гойш, Дамиан де (1567) Chronica do prinçipe Dom Ioam (1905 ed.: p.21 Архивная копия от 27 ноября 2020 на Wayback Machine). The error was perpetuated by R.H. Major (1868 p.102). Major speculates Usodimare is a pseudonym, pinched by the fugitive António de Noli, from an illustrious late 13th-century Genoese admiral of that name. Most later historians (e.g. Diffie & Winius, 1977; Russell, 2000) treat the two men distinctly.
  • Russell, 2000: p.308. A copy of Usodimare’s letter is found in R.H. Major, Life of Prince Henry of Portugal (1868: p.104 Архивная копия от 4 июля 2014 на Wayback Machine)
  • Originally published in G. Gråberg,Annali di geografia e di statistica (Genoa, vol. II, p. 286-8, p.290-91. Copies of Usodimare’s letter can be found in R.H. Major, Life of Prince Henry of Portugal (1868: p.104 Архивная копия от 4 июля 2014 на Wayback Machine), Monumenta Henricina, Vol. 12, No.99, and several other places. The story of the Usodimare manuscript is related in Walckenaer (1810: p.190) and summarized by J. Codine (1873: p.412)
