The Persian soldiers carried a light wickershield, a short spear and a long dagger or short curved sword.[2] They wore a tunic with little or no armor, trousers and leather boots.[2] The Persians depended on their archers to attack the enemy from a distance. But their lightweight arrows were almost useless against the well-armored hoplites.[2]
