Amy Elizabeth Walter (born October 19, 1969) is an American political analyst who is the publisher and editor-in-chief of The Cook Political Report with Amy Walter. Since 2015, she has also served as a political analyst for the PBS NewsHour. Walter specializes in forecasting and analyzing national U.S. elections. Walter was raised in Barrington, Illinois and is a 1987 graduate of Barrington High School. She graduated summa cum laude from Colby College in 1991 and sits on its board of trustees. Walter began working at The Cook Political Report in 1997. Between then and 2007 she served as a senior editor covering the United States House of Representatives.
