Coimbatore, also spelt as Koyamputhur (Tamil pronunciation: ), sometimes shortened as Kovai (IPA: ), is one of the major metropolitan cities in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Noyyal River and surrounded by the Western Ghats.
