The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (立憲民主党, Rikken-minshutō, CDP or CDPJ) is a liberal political party in Japan. It is the major party of the centre-left in Japanese politics. It was founded in October 2017 as a split from the Democratic Party ahead of the 2017 general election. In late 2020, the party was re-founded following a merger with majorities of the Democratic Party for the People and the Social Democratic Party as well as some independent lawmakers.
