Itō (伊東市, Itō-shi) is a city located on the eastern shore of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of 31 July 2019, the city had an estimated population of 68,773 in 36,717 households and a population density of 550 persons per km². The total area was 124.13 square kilometres (47.93 sq mi). Itō is located in eastern Shizuoka Prefecture, on the northeast corner of Izu Peninsula, facing Sagami Bay on the Pacific Ocean. The landscape is hilly, and the heavily indented coastline is scenic. Much of the coastal area of the city is within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. The city is located within the Izu-Tobu volcanic zone, and is subject to frequent earthquakes.
