Nagai (長井市, Nagai-shi) is a city located in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 February 2020, the city had an estimated population of 26,466 in 9940 households, and a population density of 120 people per km². The total area of the city is 214.67 square kilometres (83 sq mi). Nagai is located in mountainous southern Yamagata Prefecture. The Mogami River passes through eastern portion the city, and the northwest end of the city includes Mount Asahi.
