Columbus is a city in and the county seat of Platte County, in the state of Nebraska in the Midwestern United States. The population was 24,028 at the 2020 census, making it the 10th largest city in Nebraska. Columbus is governed by a mayor and city council, which has eight members who represent four wards. The council members are elected for four-year terms on a staggered basis. Columbus' mayor is also elected for a four-year term. The current mayor is Jim Bulkley and the current council members are Charlie Bahr, John Lohr, Katherine Lopez, Beth Augustine-Schulte, Troy Hiemer, J. Prent Roth, Richard Jablonski and Ron Schilling.
