Motihari is the headquarters of East Champaran district in the Indian state of Bihar. It is located 80 kilometres west of Muzaffarpur and 152 kilometres northwest of the state capital Patna. Motihari is located on 26°39' N and 84°55' E in northwestern Bihar. It is about 165 km (103 mi) northwest from the state capital Patna, 45 km (28 mi) from Bettiah, 72 km (45 mi) from Muzaffarpur, 40 km (25 mi) from Mehsi, and 75 km (47 mi) from Sitamarhi.
