Gerard Piqué Bernabeu (born 2 February 1987) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Due to his tackling, ability to withstand pressure, and triumphs in his overall career, he is considered to be one of the best defenders of all time. Initially a talented student athlete at La Masia, Piqué began his professional career with Manchester United in 2004. He returned to Barcelona in 2008 under Pep Guardiola's leadership and helped the club win trebles in 2008–09 and 2014–15.
