Geroldswil is a municipality in the district of Dietikon in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland, located in the Limmat Valley. Geroldswil is first mentioned in 1255 as Geroltzwiler. Geroldswil has an area of 1.9 km2 (0.73 sq mi). Of this area, 27% is used for agricultural purposes, while 24.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 42.9% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (5.8%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains). In 1996 housing and buildings made up 36.1% of the total area, while transportation infrastructure made up the rest (7.9%).
