Givisiez (French: ; Arpitan: Gevesiér [dzəvəˈʒi] (listen)) is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was formerly known in German as Siebenzach, but this usage is no longer common. Givisiez is first mentioned in 1142 as Juvinsie. Until the beginning of the 19th century it was known as Juvisy. Givisiez has an area, as of 2009, of 3.5 square kilometers (1.4 sq mi). Of this area, 1.19 km2 (0.46 sq mi) or 34.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.8 km2 (0.31 sq mi) or 23.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.4 km2 (0.54 sq mi) or 40.5% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.02 km2 (4.9 acres) or 0.6% is either rivers or lakes and 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 1.2% is unproductive land.
