Kovářská is located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Chomutov and 26 km (16 mi) northeast of Karlovy Vary. It lies in the Ore Mountains. The origin of Kovářská is associated with the mining and processing of iron ore. Until the 19th century, it was almost the only source of livelihood for the locals.
