Ron Shalom Galperin (born August 1, 1963) is an American politician who served as the 19th Los Angeles City Controller from 2013 to 2022. He took office on July 1, 2013 and won re-election in 2017. A member of the Democratic Party, Galperin is the first openly gay official and first neighborhood councilmember to be elected to citywide office in Los Angeles. Galperin was elected Los Angeles City Controller in 2013, and re-elected in 2017. He was a candidate in the 2022 California State Controller election. Galperin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, business, and political science from the Washington University in St. Louis and his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. He was admitted to the State Bar of California on December 12, 1994. In 2018, Galperin completed Harvard University's John F.
