Tsuyoshi Yamaguchi (山口 壯, Yamaguchi Tsuyoshi, born October 3, 1954) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party and a member of the House of Representatives. He also served as Minister of the Environment from October 2021 to August 2022. Yamaguchi is a native of Aioi, Hyōgo. He is an only child who was raised by his father—a dentist—and his father's sister. He excelled as a tennis star in his student years and has been avid player since. After graduating from the faculty of law of the University of Tokyo in 1978, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1979 and received a Ph. D from SAIS at Johns Hopkins University in the United States while an attache to the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. When living in the U.S., he took up golf. Years prior to pursuing his political ambitions, Yamaguchi took a keen interest in politics and dreamed of serving his country as an elected official.
