Muolen is a municipality in the Wahlkreis (constituency) of St. Gallen in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Muolen is first mentioned in 1155 as Mola. Muolen has an area, as of 2006, of 10.3 km2 (4.0 sq mi). Of this area, 85.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 7.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 7% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.1%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes). The municipality is located in the St Gallen Wahlkreis.. It is the northernmost municipality in the canton. It consists of the village of Muolen and multiple hamlets as well as part of the Hudelmoos, the last high moorland in the Fürstenland (a historic region comprising the Wahlkreises of Wil, St. Gallen and Rorschach).
