Nax is a former municipality in the district of Hérens in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. On 1 January 2011, the former municipalities of Vernamiège, Nax and Mase merged in the new municipality of Mont-Noble. Nax is first mentioned around 1001-1100 as Nas. Its village church collapsed in 1909 during a service, killing 31 and injuring 50. Nax has an area, as of 2009, of 24.5 square kilometers (9.5 sq mi). Of this area, 8.13 km2 (3.14 sq mi) or 33.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 7.77 km2 (3.00 sq mi) or 31.7% is forested.
