Neyruz (French: ; Arpitan: Nêruz [ˈneʁy] (listen)) is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. Neyruz is first mentioned in 1137 as Nuerus. In 1138 it was mentioned as Nuruos. The municipality was formerly known by its German name Rauschenbach, however, that name is no longer used. Neyruz has an area, as of 2009, of 5.5 square kilometers (2.1 sq mi). Of this area, 3.2 km2 (1.2 sq mi) or 57.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.44 km2 (0.56 sq mi) or 26.0% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.85 km2 (0.33 sq mi) or 15.3% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04 km2 (9.9 acres) or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.2% is unproductive land.
