The Northern Suburbs Crematorium, officially Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, is a crematorium in North Ryde, New South Wales, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It was officially opened on 28 October 1933, and the first cremation took place on 30 October 1933. Northern Suburbs Crematorium was the second crematorium in New South Wales. It was designed by Frank I'Anson Bloomfield (1879–1949), who was cremated there, and also designed NSW and Sydney's first crematorium at Rookwood Cemetery. Bloomfield designed both places with a view to an authentic "florentine" feel. The grounds feature Art Deco statues, Royal Doulton tiles, classic iron work and other period features. The Memorial Gardens is a heritage listed site and often features in historical tours of Sydney and the North Shore. More information...
