Dukovany is a municipality and village in Třebíč District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 900 inhabitants. It is known for the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. Dukovany is located about 27 kilometres (17 mi) southeast of Třebíč and 31 km (19 mi) southwest of Brno. It lies in the Jevišovice Uplands. The village lies on the Dukovanský Stream, which flows into the Jihlava River. The Jihlava and the Mohelno Reservoir built on form the northern municipal border. The first written mention of Dukovany is from 1263, originally named Tokovany. In the second half of the 13th century it was given to the Templar Order. In 1298, Alšík of Dukovany was mentioned as the owner of the nearby Rabštejn Castle. More information...
