Orbe (French: ; Latin: Urba; older German: Orbach, [ɔʁbax]; Arpitan: Orba) is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It was the seat of the former district of Orbe and is now part of the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois. Orbe is first mentioned about 280 as Urba. In 1179, it was mentioned as versus Orbam. Orbe has an area, as of 2009, of 12 km2 (4.6 sq mi). Of this area, 8.85 km2 (3.42 sq mi) (73.6%) are used for agricultural purposes, while 0.44 km2 (0.17 sq mi) (3.7%) is forested.
