Pilbara Minerals is an Australian lithium and tantalite mining company. Pilbara Minerals was founded in January 2005 as Portland International. It commenced trading in August as an internet and telephone sports bookmaker. Having been renamed Marginbet in April 2007, it was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in September 2007. In November 2007 it diversified into gold mining, purchasing two prospecting licences in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia.
