Podemos (Spanish: , translated in English as "We Can") is a left-wing populist political party in Spain. Part of the anti-austerity movement in Spain, it was founded in January 2014 by political scientist Pablo Iglesias Turrión and other academics in the aftermath of the 15-M Movement protests against inequality and corruption. In the 2014 European Parliament election in Spain, Podemos won 8.0% of the vote, and five seats out of 54. The result of newly founded party received significant media attention, having outperformed the polls.
