Sissach (German pronunciation: [zɪːsax]) is a municipality and the capital of the district of Sissach in the canton of Basel-Country, Switzerland. Sissach is first mentioned around 1225-26 as Sissaho. Sissach has an area, of 8.87 square kilometers (3.42 sq mi). Of this area, 2.5 km2 (0.97 sq mi) (28.2%) is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.22 km2 (0.86 sq mi) (25.0%) is developed.
