Soledar (Ukrainian: Соледар, IPA: ; Russian: Соледар, IPA: ; lit. 'gift of salt'), formerly known as Karlo-Libknekhtovsk from 1965 to 1991, is a settlement in Bakhmut Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. The settlement lies 18 km (11 mi) from the city of Bakhmut, and its population was 10,490 in January 2022. It is a highly important salt-mining location, with the Soledar Salt Mine providing 95% of Ukraine's salt in 2021. The settlement has been almost entirely destroyed due to intense fighting during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, after which it came under Russian control on 11 January 2023.
