Kadiivka or Stakhanov is a city in Luhansk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, Donbas. The city is incorporated as a city of oblast significance. Its population is approximately 73,248 (2022 est.). The city was under the control of the breakaway Luhansk People's Republic from early 2014 until Russia declared its annexation of the region in late 2022. Prior to 1937, the city was known as Kadiivka or Kadievka. From 1937 to 1940, the city was named Sergo or Serho (Ukrainian: Серго) after Bolshevik leader Sergo Ordzhonikidze, and then from 1940 to 1978, the city was once again known as Kadiivka.
