Tasov (German: Tassau) is a municipality and village in Žďár nad Sázavou District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 700 inhabitants. Tasov lies in the Křižanov Highlands in the valley of the stream Polomina, a tributary of the Oslava. The Oslava River forms the western border of the municipal territory. The highest point of the municipality is on the northern border with an altitude of 530 metres (1,740 ft). Tasov was most likely founded in the 12th century. The establishment of the settlement was connected with the nearby fortress. The first written mention of Tasov is from 1233, when the owner of Tasov became Záviš of Tasov. The village quickly developed and became a major religious centre serving parishes in nearby villages. In 1366, Tasov was first referred to as a market town. More information...
