The Federal University of Espírito Santo (Portuguese: Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Ufes) is a federal university with headquarters in the city of Vitória, capital of Espírito Santo state, in Brazil. It is the largest and most important university in the state of Espírito Santo, southeastern Brazil. It is a public university, offering free, high-quality higher education by integrating teaching, research and outreach programs in all fields of knowledge. The university was founded in 1954, and today it comprises four campuses. Two are located in the capital city of Vitória (Goiabeiras headquarters and Maruípe), one is in the south (Alegre), and the other is in the north (São Mateus), together covering over 300,000 m2 of floor space in an area of more than 4 million m2.
