Veltruby is a municipality and village in Kolín District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,500 inhabitants. Veltruby consists of two municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): The name is derived from the word veltrubové, which denoted people who velmi troubili (literally "blow horns a lot", but in old Czech it also meant figuratively "idle a lot"). Veltruby is located about 5 kilometres (3 mi) north of Kolín and 46 km (29 mi) east of Prague. It lies in a flat landscape in the Central Elbe Table.
