Brienne-le-Château (French pronunciation: ) is a commune in the Aube department in north-central France. It is located 1 mile (2 km) from the right bank of the river Aube and 26 miles northeast of Troyes. It was the centre of the medieval County of Brienne, whose lords, first counts and eventually dukes, had a claim to the Kingdom of Jerusalem. John of Brienne ( c. 1170 – 27 March 1237), also known as John I, was King of Jerusalem from 1210 to 1225 (and Latin Emperor of Constantinople from 1229 to 1237).
