The World Institute of Kimchi (WiKim; Korean: 세계김치연구소) is an affiliate institution of Korea Food Research Institute established in 2010 that specializes in research and development related to kimchi. The institute is located at 86 Gimchi-ro, Nam District, Gwangju. The World Institute of Kimchi was established by the South Korean government in 2010 as part of its efforts to promote the country's cultural heritage and boost its economy. Kimchi, a fermented vegetable dish and a symbol of the country's identity, has been a staple of Korean cuisine for centuries. However, with the rise of globalization and the popularity of Western foods, the consumption of kimchi began to decline.
