In Albanien konnten Wissenschaftler letztmals 1999 Spuren an der Küste der Halbinsel Karaburun nachweisen. Es ist aber auch möglich, dass Tiere aus Populationen in Nordgriechenland gelegentlich nach Albanien ziehen, vgl. The Monachus Guardian, November 2001. Im Sommer 2004 berichteten zwei Fischer, Mittelmeer-Mönchsrobben in der Gegend von Karaburun und in der Bucht von Saranda gesehen zu haben, vgl.
