Man hielt den Bericht von dem Grab des Cheops auf einer Insel in einem unterirdischen See für reine Legende, bis Zahi Hawass 1999 bei einer Ausgrabung in einem unterirdischen Kammersystems des Gizeh-Plateaus eine der Beschreibung weitgehend entsprechende Anlage entdeckte, die er als ein symbolisches Grab des Osiris klassifizierte.
