[P]eople think Lee and Yang said, “This is the solution to the tau-theta puzzle,” but they proposed other solutions as well. I read their paper in preprint and instantly decided that I should work on that. And I can tell you that my senior colleagues were all against it. They said, “Why should you waste your time on such an unlikely thing?” It looked like a completely outlandish idea. [...] It was contrary to everything you had ever learned in quantum mechanics. It was a very bold statement. That’s why very few people wanted to do the experiment—because they felt that it was so unlikely.Valentine Telegdi, Interview März 2002 [1]
