  • Von der Benutzung der deutschen Übersetzung des englischen Wortes desertification ‚Wüstenbildung‘ sollte aufgrund der assoziativen Nähe zu dem Begriff Wüste und Wüstenausbreitung konsequent verzichtet werden. Besser ist es, den Begriff Desertifikation zu benutzen, um deutlich zu machen, dass sich gemäß der Definition der UNCCD die Problematik der Desertifikation eben nicht auf das Ökosystem Wüste bezieht und auch nicht die Ausbreitung der natürlichen Wüsten meint.
