At the time of the 1983 accident, the airport's three runways were numbered 6L/24R, 6R/24L, and 14/32. As of 2021[update], these are now numbered 7L/25R, 7R/25L, and 15/33, respectively, as the runways' magnetic headings are different from their 1983 values due to changes in Anchorage's magnetic declination over time resulting from shifts in the Earth's magnetic field.
