Growing up, Bruce shares the same childhood trauma as his other classmates, who were also present during the mass shooting, since it was during a field trip. These classmates ultimately become Bruce's support system, with Edward Nygma, Oswald Cobblepot, Harvey Dent, and Waylon Jones all part of this group. These reinventions of Batman's rogues remain close to their traditional portrayals, but with the added layer of knowing Bruce and his secret identity. Following the mass shooting, Bruce also grows close to Selina Kyle, who eventually becomes an ally to Batman as Catwoman, with the same level of unpredictability familiar to the traditional lore.
Unfortunately, Bruce also becomes responsible for their own demise when Bane discovers who he is and, tragically, turns them into Ark M experiments. Waylan becomes a crocodile monster, Harvey's body is split in two, Edward is hooked up to a computer, and Oswald is turned into a terrifying being. Absolute Batman leans into the character's similarities with his rogues' gallery in a refreshing way that's both innovative and emotional.
