MONET 'The Thames below Westminster' Bequeathed by Lord Astor of Hever, 1971 NG6399
Provenance: Bought by Durandbr -Ruel from artist in 1872; sold by Durand-Ruel to Ernest Hoschedé in 1877. Collection Jean-Baptiste Faure; 1906 deposited with a number of other pictures from the Faure collection back with Durand-Ruel; bought by him in March 1907; 1914 sent to Cassirer, Berlin, who, contrary to Durand-Ruel's instructions, sold it, and a number of other paintings. Confiscated by the German Government. 1934 with Alfred Gold, who offered it to the National Gallery (Tate Archives); bought by Tooth from Gold in March 1936; sold in same month to John Jacob Astor (later Lord Astor of Hever); bequeathed by Lord Astor of Hever, 1971.
