  • Duer is likely a corruption of the Portuguese word for the Douro river ("Duero" in Spanish). Egas Duer was married to a lady of the Sousa family and many historians and genealogists have stated that he most likely belonged to the House of Riba Douro, Egas being a common name among the members of said House.
