This is the universally accepted date for Basil's death.[3][13][124] The date is found in the Skylitzes' (and Cedrenus') chronicle archived in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.[125] Two latter copies, from the 15th century, give 12 December.[125][126] Two others, from the 13th century, give 13 December.[127][128] The 1839 edition of the CSHB uses the Paris manuscript, but forgets to translate the full date (Δεκεμβρίῳ γὰρ μηνί ιεʹ), a mistake that is repeated in the 2010 translation.[129]
