This is the universally accepted date for Basil's death.[3][15][126] The date is found in the Skylitzes' (and Cedrenus') chronicle archived in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.[127] Two latter copies, from the 15th century, give 12 December.[127][128] Two others, from the 13th century, give 13 December.[129][130] The 1839 edition of the CSHB uses the Paris manuscript, but forgets to translate the full date (Δεκεμβρίῳ γὰρ μηνί ιεʹ), a mistake that is repeated in the 2010 translation.[131]
