This is offensive because no consideration was given to (1) how the person themself identified, nor (2) whether or not the person was accepted as such by the community in which they lived.[14] When the person does not identify, or the community does not accept the person, as such, it is also a violation of article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
