Alkan's forenames are sometimes erroneously given as Charles-Henri Valentin (or Victorin) Morhange.[8] It is possible that the use of 'Henri' may have arisen from a misunderstanding of the abbreviation "Ch." "Victorin" arose from a misprint in Kaikhosru Sorabji's essay on Alkan in his 1932 book, "Around Music". (See Alkan Society Bulletin 87, 5.)
