Charles (Rogers) (Buddy) Rogers, the handsome leading man and band leader who starred in Wings (1927), the first film to win an Academy Award, and who later married Mary Pickford, America's Sweetheart, died on Wednesday at his home in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Mr. Rogers was 94.
The Rogerses adopted two children, Ronald and Roxanne, and as family concerns moved to center stage in her life, the desire to return to films as an actress diminished ... and finally disappeared altogether.
Rogers, Miss Pickford's husband of 42 years, will receive $25,000 in cash plus much of Miss Pickford's personal property and some real estate. He will also receive at least $48,000 a year in income in a trust set up for him.
Rogers and Beverly Ricono married in 1981. She had been a real estate agent whom Rogers and Pickford had known for years in Palm Springs, where they had a second home.
