He was 87 years old. An announcement by the Government said Chiang suffered a heart attack at 10:20 p.m. and was taken to the Taipei Central Hospital, where he died at 11:50 p.m. (10:50 a.m., New York time). His wife and his eldest son, Premier Chiang Ching‐kuo, were at his bedside.
