Adams 1979:116. The garden was a retreat from the Paris salons for many of the philosophes, and Watelet dedicated his Essai describing it to the spirit of amitié, "friendship" herself. The site of the garden is the parc départemental Pierre Lagravère, formerly called l'Ile Marante"; it was the subject of a semi-permanent exhibition at Colombes, Moulin Joly, un jardin au siècle des Lumières, 2004-07 ([])
