Portuguese historian Armando Cortesão asserts that Duarte Pacheco was the son of Gonçalo Pacheco, a treasurer of the Casa de Ceuta, who famously outfitted the slave-raiding fleet of Dinis Eanes de Grã that devastated the Bay of Arguin in 1444/45.
