For an example of damnatio memoriae in action, see the inscription put on the basis of a statue, erected by Tatianus in honour of Honorius at Aphrodisias[1]; later, however, in some inscriptions the name of Tatianus was re-carved, and his homonymous nephew, Governor of Caria, erected a statue in his honour in Aphrodisias [2].
